>Offered here is an old and original 1947 ORANGE BOWL CLASSIC football program, for the game between the University of TENNESSEE VOLS vs. Please see all ten photos, as they are an important part of my description. This thick program contains 128 numbered pages, not including the covers. This early 13th Annual Orange Bowl Classic was played on Jan. 1, 1947 in Miami, Florida at Orange Bowl Stadium (aka Burdine Stadium). The program is packed with interesting football features, player/coach photos and Orange Bowl history. There's a neat one-page feature on past Orange Bowl players who starred for their teams (see pic). Mary Delma Brice, the 1947 Orange Bowl Queen, is pictured on p. The Rice Owls shutout the Tennessee Volunteers on this day, 8-0. Head coach for the Vols was Robert Neyland, while head man for the Owls was Jess Neely. History : the 1947 Orange Bowl was won by the Rice Institute over the Tennessee Vols, 8-0. Rice was tenth-ranked and out of the SWC (Southwestern Conference); Tennessee was a member of the SEC. Rice was favored by six points in this matchup, and scored all eight of their points in the first quarter which included a touchdown and a safety on a bad snap during Tennessee's quick kick. The touchdown was scored on a lateral for a 50-yard score, between Owls players Buddy Ross and Huey Keeney. Rice's Ralph Murphy blocked Tennessee's quick kick. General Dwight Eisenhower was honored during halftime; "Ike" was a close friend of Vols head coach General Robert R. The original game attendee neatly wrote the score in pen at the centerfold. Both covers exhibit a minimum of creasing! The binding is solid overall! All pages are complete and intact, and there are no cut-outs! For accuracy sake, there is a slight musty odor, typical of most vintage paper items.

Your Orange Bowl program will arrive "bagged & boarded" for protection!
